Boys Bedding - Tips For Selecting the Right Set

When you are looking to create the perfect atmosphere for your son’s bedroom, it is important to keep his style and wants in mind (that is assuming that he is old enough to have an opinion). However even if you are communicating by using small grunts and coos, you will surely be able to give his room some flair in no time. I have assembled a few ideas for you to pull into your infant, toddler, or school aged boy’s bedroom; that should be fairly lenient on your budget as well. Keep in mind however, that these are mere suggestions; and can be changed or altered in any way to fit your personal style and wants for your son’s bedroom.

One of the most tried and true themes in a boy’s bedroom (or a girls for that matter) is a dinosaur theme room. Just think, nearly any little boy becomes fascinated with these old school beasts. It is quite easy to pull in the theme of when dinosaurs ruled the earth; into nearly any sized room. Whether It is the T-Rex or the brontosaurus that has captured your son’s imagination, or the thrill of the quest for bones and archeological digs. The dinosaurs often times offer a lot of potential in a theme for a boy’s bedroom. While you can get fairly elaborate, by using murals and accessories to create either an ancient jungle or primitive terrain, you may also be able to just bring some of that magical theme into your son’s bedding collection by purchasing a dinosaur theme bedding set. A theme quilt and a coordinating sheet set, are a great way to add a little punch into any plain old room; which will provide your boy with a portal into the long extinct realm of the dinosaurs.

However if that isn’t your son’s taste you may wish to bring in a little bit of the “top gun” theme into his room. Whichever you choose to call it top gun, fighter jets, pilots forever; once your son has the flying bug it is extremely hard to kick. So, for this reason you should just go with the flow, and help him to create a wonderful theme room that will help stimulate this hobby as well. IE: getting some airplane theme boys bedding , and teaching your son to build some model air planes. This will not only help him to create part of his accessories, but will allow him a creative outlet in this stressful world. You can spend hours with your son, building vintage fighter jets from most of today’s hobby and toy shops, which will later be seen as a strong bonding time. Another great way to pull in some extra theme throughout the room, is by getting your son a matching comforter and sheet set that captures the feel of the open air, while he nestles his head upon the clouds. Remember that you may also wish to pull in a fun theme kid’s area rug, that may also double as a play mat; along with theme cohesive lighting throughout the room.

Although it isn’t likely that many alternative families may participate in sports, that doesn’t mean that your son won’t be taken by this thought of rough play. Chances are that as a parent, your life is fairly busy, with all of the activities in which you allow your child to participate in. One of the most time consuming activities for parents to participate in is sports, despite the time and effort, sports have been known to help children get the exercise that they need, and the ability to develop life skills such as team work, healthy competitiveness, discipline, as well as responsibility. All and all sports can be a great thing, and most boys tend to love them. For this reason, pulling sports into your son’s room is a wonderful idea, from hockey, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, football etc the sky is the limit on what you can do. The most important part to all of this, is knowing what your child likes and wants. Remember it isn’t really you, that you are trying to please but your son. You will want to find the right items to pull this theme off, and to create a comfortable, and save environment that will help to stimulate your child’s imagination. Choose things that will grow with your child and have a higher chance of making it through your son’s rough play. Things such as a full sized sport theme bean bag, is one of the beast seating arrangements you can make; on this same note you should try to steer clear of any inflatable chairs until your son is older, and can understand that they are fragile.

As with any child’s bedroom, the comforter plays a massive role in a boy’s bedroom. It acts not only as a blanket to keep your child snug at night, but as a centerpiece for your child’s room decor. You should choose a comforter that is durable and functional, however you should also make sure that your boy enjoys the color and the style of the comforter you choose; trying to find one that can grow with his likes to keep from having to replace it yearly. If your son’s colors are red, white, and blue; you should try to consider a denim comforter or a red one, as one that may combine all three colors may get a bit monotonous. I would suggest allowing your child to decide upon the theme of his room, as long as he is old enough.

Ten HUT attention! March in line! Well, now that I have your attention, does your boy love his army toys? Or does he enjoy creating battles, and playing commando in the living room? It is important to support your son’s enthusiasm for the armed forces, by throwing a few camouflage splashes about his bedding. This is a wonderful way to highlight a camouflage or military theme bedroom for your little tike. You should consider taking a bed spread and matching accessories, to transform your child’s room into a field encampment for every day use. You can bring camouflage into nearly anything in the room, such as an area rug or some choice accessories; for a room that can last through the ages until one of the next fad hits the fashion scene.

Some parent’s tend to shy away from bed skirts in a boy’s room, while a white ruffled bed skirt may actually seem a bit off for your boy’s bedroom; bed skirts these days can be found in an array of colors and styles; that are a bit more at home in a boy’s world. You may wish to consider a striped or plaid bed skirt for your boy’s room, or you can throw things for a loop and try grabbing an army drab camouflage bed skirt that will help to update the theme in the room even more. Not only is selecting a fun pattern for your son’s bedding easy, but finding a bed skirt to match and give a whole new meaning to what is hiding under the bed, is still quite easy to find.

If this still isn’t your boy’s bag, then you may wish to try throwing in a little Kalahari dream into his room. Things such as elephants, lions, giraffes, and zebras; which so many boys are fascinated with. Will allow your child to go where the wild things dwell, even though a true safari may not be in your child’s near future; safari style bedding for a boy’s theme room can bring the adventure into your own home (not to mention his space). With a safari theme quilt which features exotic animals, or savannah scenes paired with coordinating sheets you can give your child a fun, and exciting place to rest his head. Such bedding is also fairly easy to coordinate with other elements of decor, such as a mural on the wall, or a pile of stuffed animals. This room is fairly easy to accomplish on a parent’s budget.

Does your son spend their entire afternoon pushing around dump trucks on the floor, or outside? Or does he tend to beg you to stop at nearby construction sites, or to watch his favorite show bob the builder at every turn of the hour? If this sounds like your boisterous boy, then this may be the perfect candidate for a theme room; something built around construction theme bedding, comfortable cotton sheets adorned with pictures of heavy machinery (cement mixers, tow trucks, dump trucks etc). However don’t forget to purchase fun accessories to throw this creative fun around the room, such as an area rug and matching toy trucks and construction gear. Remember finding a real or vintage construction hard hat can make for a great accessory! (With a little creativity you may even be able to turn it into a lamp for your child’s bedroom)

Although we have covered several theme ideas, remember before you can choose your child’s bedding; you will need to know what you will need. Whether you have a little girl or a boy, child or adult; you will always need the same basics. You will need of course a mattress pad, a bed skirt (unless you have purchased a platform bed), several sheet sets that include a fitted bottom, flat top sheets, and at least one pillowcase. You should also purchase either a blanket, bedspread, quilt, or a comforter (along with a comforter cover), or a combination of these items depending on the season. You will need to make sure that they are all cohesive with one another, to help keep true to your son’s room theme.

When you are trying to find the bedding for your son, you should look for bold patterns. Some of the best colors that lend themselves well to many of the themes you can come up with would be navy blue, maroon, gold, light blue, hunter greens, etc that will allow your son a masculine colored room (that is not to say that a boy cannot have a pink bedroom of course!) These colors tend to make a wonderful foundation piece for any room, and will allow your son to keep them as he grows; without growing out of the theme too quickly.
